it's time to Put students first!
it's time to Put students first!
It's time our District 9 kids and families receive the priority they deserve from HISD. As your board member, I'll fight for District 9 brand new schools, more staff and funds for our kids' needs in and out of school, and increase pay for teachers and campus staff. Let's make HISD work for our families and taxpayers!
It's time to prioritize our children and school campus needs. More new schools, increase our teacher and school staff salaries and provide the best technology and facilities to our students and HISD families. I have seen teachers at work firsthand as my wife is a teacher and commit to increase wraparound, counseling, tutoring and parent engagement services and ensure oversight so campus leaders are primarily spending on these priorities. I will make sure we are amongst the highest direct spend per student districts in Texas. Our people are our greatest asset and we must ensure we are taking care of them.
It's time to make the HISD US$2 billion budget work for our families and taxpayers. For too many years, we have seen wasteful spending and no oversight as to how funds are reaching our children. I will make HISD more efficient and spend less on operations and more on strategic investments, instruction and on our kids. We will hold our HISD staff accountable to families with exceptional customer service, especially our underserved Black and Hispanic families of District 9, and make it easier for all HISD families to quickly get the help they need.
It's time we honor and dignify all of our Houston kids, families and taxpayers with a world-class education that prepares our kids for the 21st century. It is unacceptable that the current HISD system is letting kids fall through the cracks, underserving our most vulnerable kids and not retaining the best talent in our classrooms. I will push for comprehensive academic and life education with strong support for Civics and being a global citizen. If Houston is to be a world-class city, we need a world-class education system that impacts every kid's life in a profound way to ensure they are good students, citizens and future contributors to our community and economy.
It's time District 9 kids and families receive the levels of support our communities need. We require leaders in HISD and on our campuses who demonstrate more empathy and true commitment to see that our kids are not left behind due to their complex out-of-school, cultural, linguistic and emotional circumstances. I will work with other elected officials in District 9 to ensure they do all they can to improve the out-of-school circumstances for our students. Through leading by example and brokering investment into District 9 by all levels of public agencies, we will lift our communities up from many challenges and renew their sense of optimism and faith in a better future and in their public servants.
From a young child, I was gifted with a God-given desire to serve others. Public service, strong community ties, and deep optimism and faith for a better tomorrow is at the core of my beliefs. We currently live in a world that paints a very dark and pessimistic future, but I will bring hard work, a positive attitude and a strong conscience to serve the families and taxpayers of District 9 for a brighter future. Most recently, I have spent my time for the past 2 years serving as Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) President at Hobby Elementary Dual Language Academy in the Brentwood area, where we have worked tirelessly to promote a better environment for our kids, including my two children who attend HISD. Additionally, I have served on an HISD Instructional Continuity committee and advocated for better resources with HISD leadership. I have also served our Houston family in various charity events such as Houston Fire Department toy drive and relief efforts of my congregation Lakewood Church. I am committed to serving you with dignity, humility, respect and excellence.
I have been a member of the Houston south area since 2012 and am a graduate of Brazosport public schools in my hometown of Lake Jackson, Texas and have received many Houston-area scholarships and participated in leadership programs. I received my double Bachelor's degree in International Studies, Spanish, Economics from DePaul University in Chicago, studied in Madrid, Spain and was a previous law candidate at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. I have worked for over 12 years in one of the largest global law firms in the area of strategic planning, marketing and growth and am fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. As a first-generation American of Guatemalan heritage, and an embodiment of numerous cross-cultural experiences, I am a product of the American dream and understand the needs of all of our District 9 families. I look forward to meeting you and hearing more about your concerns. As your board member, I promise I will walk the halls of our District 9 schools every month and hold townhalls to ensure I represent you fully!
Your support and contributions will help make real changes for our Houston kids. Thank you for your donation. Every little bit counts!
